I. Ancient Ammon and Jewish Presence
The site of Amman — biblical Rabbath-Ammon — lies in a region with deep biblical resonance. Jewish communities in Transjordan were part of the same cultural sphere of Halakha and Masoretic Text transmission.
II. Ottoman and Mandate-Era Community
Modern Amman's Jewish community grew with the city's expansion. Jews engaged in trade and crafts; Torah reading followed Sephardic and Musta'ribi customs.
III. 1948 and After
Amman's remaining Jews emigrated chiefly to Israel after 1948, and the community effectively ceased to exist.
